Window Keto Shopping

Would you believe most of my recipes ideas come directly from my Window Keto Shopping?

I walk into the shop, mostly groceries or food markets.

I see something and there at that moment, it goes.

The Recipes start popping into my head and all I can think of is quickly get home and make it and take the photo shots.

Because those photos are what gets me most of the time. Those images of Keto Food looking even better than the full-grain and high Carbs food is.

The exact same thing happened when I walked into one of the groceries close to our house.

I have seen those beautifully shaped big brown mushrooms which immediately gave me an idea of bunless burgers we normally make.

I have immediately in my head seen the picture of this beautiful juicy mushroom bun sprinkled with sesame seeds and looking like a real juicy burger bun which everyone is missing in our lifestyle. And then it went.

Our Portobello Mushroom Keto Burger was born.

All I had to do was make our Bunless Bacon Keto Burger together with Simple Keto Basil Pesto, so I can combine it all together and make a beautiful barbeque evening dinner for my whole family.

What are Portobello Mushrooms?

Did you know Portobello Mushrooms are not a specific type of Mushroom?

Portobello mushrooms are round mushrooms commonly seen in Europe and North America, white and brown in color, and in different sizes.

They could also be called Swiss brown mushrooms, cremini/crimini mushroom, common mushroom, white mushroom, button mushroom, cultivated mushroom, table mushroom, champignon mushroom, Roman brown mushroom, Italian brown mushroom, chestnut mushroom, or baby Bella.

And that is exactly what got me completely confused. When I bought those portobello mushrooms, I did not look at the name on the package.

Only after I opened the box to clean the mushrooms, I realized they are called Champignons.

At that moment, I had no idea what I had bought, and I was not sure what I was going to call them. For a minute, I believed Portobello Mushrooms were some sort of special type, which were not available here.

Only after research, I had to do it on the computer, I have found out that it is just the name of the mushrooms and not a particular type.

How Many Carbs do Mushrooms have?

Did you know that Portobello Mushrooms have got more Potassium than bananas have?

Mushrooms are one of the best vegetables to cook within our lifestyle. They are not only low in carbohydrates but as well on calories.

The flavor you get from mushrooms gives an unforgettable twist to any meal you are preparing with them.

One cup of mushrooms, depending on the exact type, contains only 15 Calories,  2-3g of carb of which 1g is Fiber, and approximately 2g of Protein.

How do you get the moisture out of the Portobello Mushroom?

Those beautiful big dark brown portobello mushrooms are not only tasty, healthy, and with really few calories and carbohydrates.

They also contain a lot of moisture.

To reduce the moisture from portobello mushrooms is to cut the stem and with your spoon or hands scrape the dark grills underneath.

That is where most of the moisture is and it will help you to get the portobello mushrooms buns more uniformed.

How do you make a Mushroom bun?

As you can see in the video, to make a keto bun out of mushrooms or portobello mushroom is very easy.

All you have to do is get beautifully looking dark brown mushrooms, which you grill to medium-rare and you can decorate.

To make it even more real bun-like looking, you can sprinkle it with sesame seeds as I have done as well.

You can also brush up the top off the portobello buns with barbecue sauce so the sesame seeds hold even better.

How do you grill Portobello mushroom buns?

To grill portobello mushroom buns is pretty easy.

As you see on the video I have used an indoor grill, but you can also use an outdoor grill without any issues.

For my indoor grill, I have two choices where I can either press the button and the top with the grill plates to give the mushrooms a beautiful grill-looking line.

But for the top portobello bun, I have decided I do not want those grills so the bun looks more like real wheat or flour bun.

I have just closed the grill in a way that the top is not touching the buns.

The same you can do with an outdoor grill where you just close the grill without turning it.

Any of the mushrooms once you place them on the grill will shrink.

To make them like a real bund looking, make sure you grill them only halfway or at least the top of the mushroom.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON MAKING THE BEST PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM KETO BURGER

First Step: Prepare and wash mushrooms

The first step for making the best Portobello Mushroom Keto  Buns is to pick the best looking portobello mushrooms in size as well as shape.

Clean them well and fully dry.

At the same time decide which mushrooms would go on top of the burger as a bun.

Make sure those once will get grilled only halfway.

Second Step: Clean the dark Grills and stem

Take out the stem of each mushroom and with your spoon or hands clean all of the dark grills underneath. Those are the ones that retain most of the moisture and are the best to just clean them.

Do not throw the stems or the grills. You can always add them to your keto burger mixture.

Third Step: Place Mushrooms on the Grill

Place all of the mushrooms on the grill.

As mushrooms do shrink while grilling, I would suggest grilling the mushrooms first, and depending on the size they end up to, you can then shape your Burgers so they all fit once put together.

Fourth Step: Cover

Once you place all of the mushrooms on the grill, cover it with the top. Make sure the top of the grill does not touch the mushrooms otherwise you will get the lines which you do not really want for beautifully looking buns.

Fifth Step: Start with the base

Once the mushrooms are done you can start assembling the whole keto portobello mushroom burger.

Decide on the most beautiful ones and place them aside.

Pick not so good looking mushrooms, which you can use as the base.

Once you have the base portobello mushroom on a plate or a wooden serving board, you can start adding your veggies, salad leaves, tomato slices, cheese, bacon, or whatever you wish.

As you can see I have also added a little bit of basil pesto to give an extra Italian touch to it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Can you store Portobello Mushroom Keto Burger?

Although it is best to eat your Portobello mushroom Keto Burger directly when fresh and ready, you can also store if you decide to.

Just place them into the sealable container and keep it in the fridge for 1 to 2 days. Not more.

Portobello Mushroom Keto Burger

Can you freeze the whole Keto Burger?

You can certainly freeze any keto burger, but I would suggest doing that separately.

I would just freeze the actual burger, the Ground Beef Keto mixture, and not the mushrooms.

Fresh Portobello mushrooms have a beautiful shape which ones frozen will destroy.

After you will unfreeze the Portobello mushrooms, they will not stay as beautifully looking as fresh.
